For a band whose name is a literal ambiguity, Shark? are remarkably good at making themselves clear. The Brooklyn quartet are especially direct on "Fingers," a concise, spasmodic shout from their second LP Savior (out now via Old Flame). "You've got your fingers in my spine and won't let go," vocalist/guitarist Kevin Diamond howls darkly through bassist Andy Kinsey's diligent groove and a brattily shrill synth icing, expounding sharply and directly on a completely intolerable yet somehow inextricable relationship. That combined with an intelligent ear for melody makes for a perfect balance of punk form and function; in just 106 seconds, Shark? deftly prunes a simple, honest and electric sentiment that wants for little.
