Kurt Vile's "Never Run Away" is one of the most guile-free and instantly accessible songs he's ever written. It's immediately identifiable as his own, with those gleaming acoustic guitars and that lived-in drawl doling out words that sounds wise largely because it sounds they come to Vile naturally. The same goes for those choppy "eh-eh-eh"s serving as addendum to an already sticky, cyclical chorus. As "Never Run Away" plays out, the (recently provided) image of Vile listening to it amongst stacks of vinyl and CDs drives home the warmth and implacable familiarity.
