Sam Willis is one-half of currently Kompakt-signed ambient techno duo Walls, and "Foxglissandro" is a single from his forthcoming debut solo album Winterval. It's reminiscent of the kind of narrative, tonal techno that was done so well in the 1990s, before minimal became the dominant aesthetic. In fact, it has the bubbling, bumbling rise and lilt of "Smokebelch II" by Sabres of Paradise, which actually borrowed heavily from L. B. Bad's little-known 1989 track "New Age of Faith". Genealogy aside, it's Willis's wielding of barely-there acid line-- like winter's first frost-- that make "Foxglissandro" an entirely absorbing six minutes.
