Paris duo Paradis debuted on NYC radio show-turned-label Beats in Space in 2011 with "Parfait Tirage." It was their inaugural single, but there was a manicured feel to it, as if the duo of Simon Mény and Pierre Rousseau had been painstakingly sanding their take on French pop and American house for ages until it was smooth and polished from every angle. Yet "Toi et Moi," from their debut LP, Recto Verso, flashes an even greater elegance and lighter touch. There are potent club tracks elsewhere on the album, but "Toi et Moi" leans towards pop. Synthesized strings heave, a one-finger melodic line percolates, and a closed hi-hat propels the track. There's a shimmering descending line that leads into the chorus, melancholic and luxurious at once, striking a perfect balance between a chanson and the club.-=-=-=-
