Give Your Light Off

Release Date:  2012

Bend Beyond was a relatively straightforward, poppy outing for Woods, a collection of concise pop songs that was free of the gnarled noise-jams that usually pull at this band's ankles like thick roots. So it makes sense that the B-side to the cleaned-up, sprightly album single "Cali In A Cup" would bring back the darkness. "Give Your Light Off" is a potent dose of the kind of starlit rural creepiness the band excels at: a heavy, haunted hymnal, built on only a few embers of sound. A dull kick-drum thud resounds two drowsily strummed guitar chords blur into a campfire circle, and hushed vocal chants, leaving smeary reverb trails in the air.
