On their authoritative 2013 debut, Process, Brooklyn noise-punk duo Yvette managed to recast a music rooted in nihilism and agitation into something approachable and transfixing. But there are no such populist concessions to be had on the band's caustic contribution to Godmode's new American Music comp: "I Don’t Need Anything From Anybody" is an alternately harrowing and hilarious anti-social anthem that revels in its repellant power. From the migraine-inducing siren of a keyboard riff to the percussive nail-bomb breakdown to the caterwauling closing stretch where Noah Kardos-Fein loses his shit like side-two-of-My War Rollins trapped in a maze of funhouse mirrors, "I Don’t Need Anything From Anybody" is Yvette’s wholly unsubtle way of saying "get off of my lawn"—albeit compounded by the existential frustration of living in a city where no one can afford to have one.
