Vaura's debut LP, Selenelion, is out February 28 via Wierd. The New York quartet-- featuring members of Dysrhythmia, Gorguts, Kayo Dot, Secret Chiefs 3, and Religious to Damn-- isn't what you'd expect from the minimal wave/darkwave label. The group's difficult to pin down in general, mixing synth-lined post-rock, psychedelia, dark rock, black metal, industrial, acoustic flourishes, and a few Jorge Luis Borges references. It makes sense they're opening for Alcest in NYC, though they explore areas Neige doesn't. "Vanth" and "Obsidian Damascene Sun"-- you'll find the latter at Bandcamp-- help illustrate this.
