The in-the-red Calgary, Alberta noise-doom duo Mares of Thrace are releasing their Sanford Parker-produced three-act sophomore LP The Pilgrimage on April 24 via Sonic Unyon Metal. I first became aware of vocalist/guitarist Thérèse Lanz when she was playing bass for excellent Winnipeg noise-rock trio KEN mode. Here, she's joined by drummer Stef MacKichan, with whom she's collaborated in one project or another for more than a decade. Of this 10-song collection, Lanz says, "It contains no bass guitar and no standard sized guitar…I have a baritone guitar that was custom-built for me by Kurt Ballou of Converge that contains a guitar and a bass pickup." Grab a Bible to glean the backstory and then see what that guitar sounds like on opening track, "Act I: David Glimpses Bathsheba".
