It's clear that Los Angeles producer Goldroom understands the importance of a great single's sense of place; his latest release, "Only You Can Show Me", is awash in a sunset glow and sticky heat that's ineffably southern Californian. After laying down a percussive base that's reminiscent of Hercules & Love Affair, Josh Legg begins to layer squelchy, humid synths and a light, airy vocal line, courtesy of collaborator Mereki Beach. Once the song has built to a head over the first half, Legg fades out for a brief moment of silence; when the drums and synths rush back from the grave, it's like hearing an old favorite return to the dance floor.
