Words can’t describe…
This single handedly has to be one of the greatest songs to come out of the 60’s. This song is just so beautifully melancholic my words can’t do it justice to just how beautiful this song is. Everything about this song is just amazing. Mick Jagger (who I think his vocals aren’t that good), shines on this track. I mean the intro adds this layer of a serene nature to the track. The vocals oooing just adds a beautiful touch. I just love the name “Gimme Shelter.” It just goes to show the strife going on at the time and needing a safe haven. The guitar adds this southern type of twang that just works beautifully to the song. But the show is just completely stolen by Merry Clayton. Just her voice screeching and cracking adds this layer of realism to the track. This wasn’t a facade, this was very pouring her soul into this track. It’s really breath taking I’ve really never heard anything like it. Also apparently Clayton had a miscarriage due to her straining herself from the recording. Which is sad and unfortunate, but it adds another layer of emotional wreckage and realism to this track.
