Given Schoolboy Q's track record with Kendrick Lamar collaborations, it was a surprise when good kid, m.A.A.d city landed without an actual verse from him. Fortunately, we now have “Collard Greens”, a seamless track produced by previous Kendrick collaborators THC, who stray from the immediacy of “m.A.A.d city” and “Cartoon & Cereal” in favor of an uncluttered grower that rumbles for five minutes as the two MCs tear it open from inside. “Collard Greens” is a patchwork of lines that don't provide much in the way of linear narration, but both Schoolboy and Kendrick find plenty of ways to get their personality across. Q has said Kendrick is the guy inspiring him to drop a classic, and when the two are together like this, such an accomplishment looks very much within reach.
