In a relatively short time, dvsn—the duo of singer-songwriter Daniel Daley and producer Nineteen85, signed to Drake’s OVO Sound label—have carved out substantial real estate in a crowded field of R&B playboys. Their songs are hushed exchanges detailing the very nature of intimacy, emphasizing closeness through separation: the sensations or anticipation of a touch, the suspense built between trysts, the stillness of a quiet Uber ride home alone.

“Don’t Choose” is as much about fidelity as it is about sensuality. Where recent track “Think About Me” channeled the satisfaction of subtweeting an ex, “Don’t Choose” is far more direct in its attempts to reconnect; this chime-driven, late-night lullaby longs for contact. “Don’t choose a club over this tonight/Don’t choose your friends over this tonight/Don’t you forget the way I make it feel,” Daley sings, essentially mid-sext. The scene unfolds as many of the best dvsn tales do: In conversation with someone unseen, as if the listener is eavesdropping on a call in progress. With an assist from PARTYNEXTDOOR and the ghost of Isaac Hayes, Daley communicates the push and pull of two noncommittal people in lust, yearning for more but unwilling to compromise.
