Röyksopp favor long gestation periods. Save for a brief burst of productivity at the end of the last decade that saw them releasing two full-lengths in 18 months, the Norwegian electronic duo typically takes their sweet time. “Something in My Heart” is the back half of a new single (out December 16 via Röyksopp's own label Dog Triumph via Wall of Sound and Cooking Vinyl in the UK),  and it's their first in nearly three years; taken together with its A-side counterpart "Running to the Sea", it suggests an impending course correction, a step away from the meandering instrumentals of Senior back to the expressive, guest-driven electro-pop of their first three albums.

The guest in question on “Something in My Heart” is London vocalist Jamie McDermott, best known for his work in the Irrepressibles, and he ably navigates Röyksopp’s chugging, slowly pulsing synths. When his vocal lines begin to overlap and blur together at the song’s close, it’s a welcome reminder of this pair’s deft hand with melody and atmosphere after a few years of silence.
