I first became aware of Absolutely because I’m a fan of her sister RAYE, so I was naturally curious to hear what she was doing musically. But Paracosm really feels like Absolutely stepping out and creating her own identity, which I appreciate. There’s something so dreamy and almost magical about this album. It has this soft, theatrical quality that makes it feel like you’re being pulled into its own little world. It’s not necessarily an album I’d throw on when I want something super immediate, but the more I listened, the more certain songs started sticking with me. “I Just Don’t Know You Yet,” “Prototype,” “Elevator,” and “Paracosm” were some of my favorites, and I really enjoyed how different the whole project feels from what I expected going in. Obviously, being familiar with RAYE made me curious about Absolutely, but I don’t feel like I’m listening to her as “RAYE’s sister.” She has her own sound, personality, and way of expressing herself. Paracosm feels like a really cool introduction to that world, and I’m definitely interested in seeing where she takes her music next.
