Two of my favorite Bay Area black metal groups, Bosse-de-Nage and Deafheaven, teamed up for a split 12", out November 20 on the Flenser (it can be pre-ordered now). For Side A, Deafheaven covered “Punk Rock” and “Cody,” the opening songs from Mogwai’s Come on Die Young, the Scottish band’s 1999 album featuring black metal–esque cover art and sentiments. The selection’s a great fit for Deafheaven, who have a way with extended post-rock hauntings.
