The first few seconds of "Blue Lights" could have you thinking you were off on a synth odyssey, but lo and behold, it blossoms into a moody piano house number with anthemic promise. It’s the work of Planet Mu’s Mike Paradinas and Lara Rix-Martin-- a partnership in life and now in production-- in new guise Heterotic. "Blue Lights", from their debut album Love & Devotion, features vocals from Nick Talbot of Warp-signed, folky alt-rock outfit Gravenhurst. In this context, Talbot’s voice resembles Bernard Sumner's, his plaintive wondering as the perfect counterpoint to the song’s celestial-evoking chords.
