When a song bears someone's name as its title, it's likely referring to a muse that's doomed or causing a serious swoon. It's a little of both for Winston Yellen, the Nashville native whose debut as Night Beds, Country Sleep, is due out February 5 on Dead Oceans. The "Ramona" here is clearly displaced-- from family, spirituality, and the one thing that she needs for salvation: herself. "Fuck what they taught ya," Yellen yowls as a sighing guitar lead descends over a folk-rock thrum that honors his local roots before breaking into a billowy dream-pop coda.
