The 23-year-old producer/vocalist Sudan Archives (aka Brittney Parks) mixes Northeast African folk violin with electronic music, creating a complex web of sounds that includes percussive plucks, swooping orchestral strings, and looped beats. The L.A.-based musician’s airy, willowy voice weaves through it all, infusing it with a trance-like feeling. Her new song, “Nont For Sale,” off her forthcoming sophomore EP Sink, is comparatively minimal, a confident, no-frills dismissal of anyone who tries to bring her down.

“Nont for Sale” begins with anxious, plucked violin and a no-nonsense directive: “You only call me/When you need something/I need to be free.” The song expertly showcases Sudan Archives’ voice, her chanted lyrics rise confidently above the jittery instrumentals as she continues to warn a toxic friend to back off.
