There are King Tuff fans, and there are King Tuff fanatics, the type that will shell out a couple hundred bucks on eBay for his earliest releases, which likely cost less than that to actually record. On April 30, Burger will bring those two closer together with the reissue of Was Dead, previously only available on vinyl. "Sun Medallion" is a typically tuneful and amiable highlight that makes last year's Sub Pop-released self-titled effort sound glossy by comparison. But you can see why people have been following Kyle Thomas in all of his various guises-- the shambling demeanor and fuzz can still cast it as "garage rock" if you insist, though it sounds more focused on an itinerant lifestyle lived outdoors, as Thomas sings about pounding the pavement, braiding his hair, killing time with smokes, and the titular charm that gives him the good luck to keep on movin'.
