Tumbling, stomping, and sashaying her way through the underground, Mary Jane Dunphe of Olympia's Vexx has earned her reputation as one of the most inspiring frontpeople in American punk. Even in shoddy YouTube clips, her blazing presence, on stage and in basements, will fill your heart. I once read Vexx's live show described as “Merce Cunningham choreographing Iggy at a Stooges gig” and was struck by a level of intrigue I have not shaken.

Clearly Dunphe likes to dance. So it's no surprise she has manifested that impulse towards pure movement into a searing new synth pop duo called CC Dust. In collaboration with Laurent Dagnicourt, CC Dust's “Never Going to Die” is a euphoric anthem that breathes through pounding beats, galactic synths, and Dunphe's gnarled, full-bodied singing. The aliveness of the song's title really shines here, and the video is just as exhilarating: Dunphe dances gracefully near the water and sprints with a spirit of infinity. You could imagine this filling a club—but only a dancefloor for dreamers.
