A new series of digital singles sees Montreal's dank pop don Pat Jordache push himself further than ever before. His debut album, 2011's Future Songs, was a collection of dirty, shy pop songs; November's "steps (DAMAGED GOODS)" was an astonishing New Wave workout, an impulse pushed further on "Fields Laying Fallow", where parping bass, high strung guitars, and his sung-down-a-manhole voice get tangled up in hyperactive flurries of strings. It's brilliantly chaotic, almost as if Devo had shorted a circuit.
