Back when they called themselves Dive, DIIV's earlier singles sounded similar to the lackadaisical vibes of Beach Fossils, another band that leader Zachary Cole Smith's been involved in over the past few years. "Doused", the new single from DIIV's forthcoming debut LP Oshin, is the opposite of that sound, a gloom-shrouded track that preys on the gothier elements of guitar-driven post-punk, while somehow still managing to jangle a bit. Precise yet somehow still embryonic, it's dream pop for those currently having some very dark dreams.
