King Louie Bankston is a power pop songwriter and bandleader from Harahan, Louisiana-- he's the bearded dude in the bandana up there holding that white Flying V. His credits include work in a one-man band, a band called King Louie's Loose Diamonds (with band members Jack Oblivian and Harlan T. Bobo), and most prominently, he was a member of the Exploding Hearts when they made Guitar Romantic. His band Missing Monuments have a self-titled album out later this year via Dirtnap, and it's another solid slab of power pop from the King. "Answer the Call" has a catchy central hook that's the perfect base for Bankston's wordy verses. They implement vocal harmonies and, yes, a false ending. But the real killer here is the shred-tastic guitar solo, which is exactly how you should open a power pop album.
