Sigh and Boris both formed in Tokyo in the early 1990s, but where Boris has since used experimentation to arrive at a more accessible sound, Sigh-- who currently play a sort of avant-garde, jazz-infused Mr. Bungle-esque "black metal"-- keep getting weirder. See, for instance, "Purgatorium", the opening track from the band's ninth album, In Somniphobia, out March 13 via Candlelight. Vocalist/keyboardist Mirai Kawashima had this to say about the collection: "This is your sonic nightmare. This is the music that lies somewhere between your reality and imagination…Be sure to smoke first then listen to this with headphones." TGIF.
