The first single from Shams’ forthcoming Piano Cloud EP, “She Wanted to Watch,” is an effortless disco-house hybrid with a few clever touches that keep it from slipping into boilerplate territory. The most exciting of Shams’ choices is also the most subtle: a glimmering barely-there synth interpolated now and again to grant the music a little mystery. Those synths, along with an uncanny twilight-zone aura which intrudes in the final minute, help contribute to the song's sensuality.

Everything here is cooing and smooth—think a Rhye instrumental with any remaining friction filtered out. 100% Silk label head Amanda Brown has a gift for spotting musicians who can do interesting work on a small budget, and it’s clear from “She Wanted to Watch” that Shams fits in nicely.
