All in the name of putting you off the scent, the rather wafty blurb/mission statement on Arthur Beatrice's website puts across the London four-piece as a wholly different proposition to the reality: "Savages, with their rare cuts and organ hooks... Attack music..." They first popped up a couple of years ago before ducking back down again to gestate their debut album in secret; their second single, "Carter (Cut)" may start with a stormy rumble of rims and toms, but it quickly softens as singer Ella Girardot coos richly and theatrically of intimacy and betrayal, before a dimpled house piano line (and a giveaway citation of the Fauvists in their M.O.) makes clear that Arthur Beatrice's rather lovely approach is much more smother than silence yourself.
