The latest single from Joyride

Tinashe’s best R&B songs tend to be dialed to a few specific settings: a little languid, a little druggy, and supremely steamy. On “Faded Love,” the latest single from her forthcoming album Joyride, she draws on each of those qualities in spades, offering up a slice of downtempo pop-R&B so hypnotic that it already has prime real estate on vibey “nighttime” playlists. Here, Tinashe isn't interested in drawn-out courtship, instead settling to relax on her luxe California king bed with a lover, no commitment required. Padded with breathy, chopped vocals and woozy production from Stargate, “Faded Love” comes across as a natural extension of the screwed-down bedroom music that Tinashe refined early in her career. Tinashe also reconnects with Future, who delivers a unfocused verse that just makes the pair’s strong first collaboration—the 2014 Janet Jackson-worshipping “How Many Times”—seem like a fluke. But that doesn’t detract from Tinashe’s star power here—“Faded Love” is all about her, pivoting on velvety vocal inflections and an elliptical earworm of a chorus, ready-made for passionate nights spent between the sheets.
