A longstanding underground concern, Deetron has been primed for a breakout for some time now—and judging from "Rhythm", the first single from forthcoming sophomore LP Music Over Matter (out in October via Music Man), that moment may be just around the corner. "Rhythm" marks a considerable leap forward in accessibility, enlisting the soaring vocals of UK singer Ben Westbeech to add emotional resonance while cannily retaining the even-handed balance of house's warmth and techno's muscularity upon which the Swiss producer has built his name.

Weestbech's soulful ad-libs double over themselves, forming a dual harmony that ratchets up the tension as the track boils over. The track is six minutes of stormy clouds and chest-tightening urgency, a powerful peak-time bomb that offers only light relief with a curlicue of twinkling synth in the final run.
