Buke and Gase's music always feels artfully hobbled in some way—the duo play their own self-made instruments, and perhaps in sympathy with their neither-here-nor-there creations, their songs tend to hop about in irregular coordinates in a way that suggests modern dancing, or nervous tics, or both. "Seam Esteem" almost feels like a dancefloor song. It begins with a few broken, creaking noises, but a clattering downbeat hits and pulls the quirks into a straight line. Arone Dyer's voice shoots into a falsetto at the hook, somewhere between childlike and mocking, on the line "It feels, feels so for real."
