The hypnotic, metallic twangs that form the creeping spine of "Black Cat" sound corroded, as if hung from the windows of Dan Reeves' Brighton home and left to shiver themselves soft in the cold sea air. Reeves is also a member of garage krautrockers Cold Pumas, but his work as the Soft Walls is a solo project; the result of periods of isolation in between recording with his main band. "Black Cat" sounds at once solitary and smothered, inhabiting the shadows left by Women's Public Strain, and furrowing a very Smog-like sentiment: submitting oneself to another's touch and control, having bonded over dragging a body in from the cold.
