From Soccer Mommy’s recent release last girl/be seeing you

The singer-songwriter Soccer Mommy (aka Sophie Allison) details the never-ending growing pains of young adulthood with uncanny precision. The familiarity of her songs have earned the New York City-via-Nashville musician a large Bandcamp following, and on her latest, “be seeing you,” she plunges into the memories of a fling gone awry. “Missing you felt like pulling teeth/I taste the metal when you're next to me,” she sings. “It's so cold and sweet/It makes me wanna take it back.” Unhurried drums, a breezy guitar line, and half-spoken coos make the song feel much brighter than her lyrics suggest. That simplicity to Soccer Mommy’s work recalls Frankie Cosmos; both wrap hard emotional truths in otherwise lightweight, eager rock music. Her lo-fi production, homemade charm, and unassuming melodies make her anecdotes—nervous kisses that rendered her weak, cozying up in a battery-dead car—all the more affecting and strangely relatable.
