Action Bronson and producer Harry Fraud share an effortless chemistry that has fueled collaborations like the blunted, ethereal “Bird on a Wire” and last month’s boom bap brawler “Strictly 4 the Jeeps”. They’ve been threatening to release a collaborative full-length for a year now, and while other projects like the Alchemist-produced Rare Chandeliers eventually took precedence, Action and Harry have issued a steady trickle of songs this year that suggests that the duo’s Saab Stories might actually be forthcoming.

“Compliments 2 the Chef”, off the New York Renaissance mixtape from New York rap radio personality Peter Rosenberg, pairs Bronson with airy, deliberate funk from Harry and a soulful guest vocal from singer-songwriter Lauriana Mae. Mae’s chorus is as grounded and subdued as Bronson’s verses are unrestrained and nonsensical, and the contrast between the two is a point of humor, especially when he chases her wistful lyric about dreams with this: “Two in the pink, two in the stink." Bronson’s a whiz over a low BPM, and he graces “Compliments 2 the Chef” with a free associative word stream loaded with his signature blend of sex, drugs, and gourmet cuisine.
