Montreal-based Sea Oleena described her last LP, Sleeplessness, as the result of "three seasons' worth of endless nights and half-lived days," a nod to the deliriousness that's marked most of her music. "If I'm," from the forthcoming Shallow, is no exception, using spiraling piano pricks to create a meditative bedrock for the heavy-eyed dance of her interlocking harmonies. The wakeful clatter of a stripped-back drum part makes a brief appearance at the track's inception, but like the rest of her opaque catalog, it gives way to the delicate guitar lines and blunted washes of reverberating vocals. Like the more structured Grouper tracks, "If I'm" lives somewhere in a sleepy middleground between bummed-out drone and deconstructed folk.
