Chaz Bundick's output as Toro Y Moi doesn't lend itself to a clear trajectory, but the common thread is that it always sounds damn good. In the past, he's gone for warm, playful funk or charmingly stoned make-out music; "So Many Details", the first single from Anything in Return, marks another leap in songwriting and production by way of working in the art of seduction. The title is a self-fulfilling prophecy, as Bundick's typically airy vocals whisper unusually direct come-ons amidst a remarkably rich sonic field of viscous low-end, smartly placed samples and a climactic tangle of percussion that makes its intent very clear. Why criticize it as "vibes" when setting the mood is the whole point?
