Originally a two-piece of Alejandro Cohen and Samuel Cooper, L.A.'s Pharaohs expanded to include fellow analog enthusiast/Dublab DJ Diego Herrera (a.k.a. Suzanne Kraft) by the time of their 2011 single for 100% Silk, Uhh Uhh. In a recent live setting, they were further augmented by a conga player and saxophonist. If you read the label on their latest EP, you'll note that Sensations Fix main man Franco Falsini is also involved with the group, adding guitar and plug-ins to the mix. Both hand drums and horns key this sprawling nine-minute exploration on their latest EP, the real drums mixing with roto toms and 707s at a fast boil. It elevates into a heady mélange of acid, flickering minimalism and late 80s house, never quite beholden to one genre but nevertheless feeling just right.
