Thundercat's undeniable new single, “Oh Sheit’s It’s X", is both joyous and muscular, a slice of capital-F funk roiling with euphoric bass that manages a slinky cool even as it testifies full-on to the pleasures of urban nightlife. The vibe is complemented by a complete innocence in indulgence: you’ve never heard a musician sound so nonchalant about rolling. And even when Thundercat realizes that, “Oh, shit, I’m fucked up,” he stays in perfect pitch.
