Up to this point Benoît Pioulard's Thomas Meluch has maintained a serious artistic and punctual consistency, releasing an album of decaying ambient-influenced indie pop every two years, his last being 2010's excellent Lasted. His forthcoming follow-up, Hymnal, somewhat breaks with tradition by missing the two-year deadline, but the dusky figures of "Margin" are reassurance that it's still business as usual otherwise. Hymnal sees release on March 4 via Kranky; the album's title is as such because Meluch drew from his own Catholic background, using religious iconography and cathedrals located in southeastern England (where he recorded the LP) as inspiration.
