Even without slipping into a discussion of the troubles of unstable Nachtmystium anchor Blake Judd, the band’s forthcoming and final album, The World We Left Behind, has its own share of problems. Late-album track "Tear You Down", however, actually builds itself up, slinking through feedback and staggering along a sidewinding riff beneath Judd’s incantatory whispers. It’s a setup for the peak, which arrives just past the halfway point. Electronic saturation, electric riffs and an antiphonal chorus collide in an overwhelming crescendo, suggesting a pop song barked out above attenuated black metal. -=-=-=-
