More often than not, a song’s mood and lyrics match up—at the very least, this is what we expect. But there are those songs that confuse you. A bubbly synth might actually be a backdrop to someone’s pain. Such is the case with Psychic Twin’s “Lose Myself,” off her upcoming debut full-length, Strange Diary. On “Lose Myself,” ethereal vocals collide with a persistent kick drum, to which your toe can’t help but tap along. The effect is immediate, but Erin Fein's hurting is not. As she breathily pours out, “When I go farther, I lose myself,” you might begin to catch on. And when she adds, “To get over you,” it's clear. Fein—who began writing the songs on her debut four years ago in the middle of a divorce—is dancing the torment away.
