The lead single from the Sun Days' forthcoming debut record, Album, is a tribute to individualism, which is funny given their downright brazen name and relative similarity to fellow Gothenburgers and Sarah Records antecedents, Makthaverskan. No matter: "Don't Need to Be Them" smartly negotiates any potential dissatisfaction with simulacra.-=-=-=-

"Don't you find life is fine/ Just not quite like on TV," sings Elsa Holmgren tenderly, as the remainder of the five-piece band gambol along with anxious optimism. The song feels a little like an after-school special, or at least the theme tune to one. A friend threatens to run away, but Holmgren offers, by way of a plea for them to stay, "if you want—if you wish—I can show you everything." The chorus makes good on her promise: Her voice's clarion reach shreds past tired sitcom tropes and illuminates pleasures untold.
