Last we heard from Four Tet, he was pining-- musically and otherwise-- for jungle's glory days, a continuation of Pink's clubby ambition. By comparison, the second track from the forthcoming Beautiful Rewind, "Parallel Jalebi"-- which takes its title from a fried sweet popular in the Middle East and Asia-- is Four Tet comfort food: sampladelia for lovers, lush and sweetly stoned. Kieran Hebden accomplishes this much the same way he always has: by flipping a wordless sigh over a loping beat. He fills in the cracks here with a paddling, beatific stutter that brings an urgency the track's tempo does not. The track twirls in place, dizzying itself to provide that cheapest and most innocent of highs: a short, intense headrush, then a quick return to the lawn.
