Recloose's "Magic" is house music, but it takes a circuitous path, as clear-eyed, gorgeous guitars wander in and out of the track's aqueous, bell-curved structure. The production on the latest single from the New Zealand-via-Detroit producer, recently released on Amsterdam's reliable Rush Hour label, is pure gold. But vocalist B. Slade (previously known as gospel singer Tonéx, who was the subject of a fascinating 2010 New Yorker profile) lends "Magic" its glassy-eyed finish, as his voice rises and falls as if having been caught in a state of perpetual ecstasy. Magic, indeed.
