"Seriously," from Brooklyn-based warehouse-rock band Sleepies' forthcoming new album out in August on God Mode, is a not-very-serious piece of rock. It was produced by the Men's Ben Greenberg, and you can hear some of that record's pile-driving looseness at play here in the sloppy, untrained-doberman guitar riffs and the song's tempo, which yanks forward and stumbles back every few seconds, like an ancient stick-shift. The song is just-right thick, as the sardonically declaiming lead vocalist sneers while the two-chord mini-boogie of the chorus hops up and down in place like an angry toddler. A bracing, affectionate headlock of a song.
