A love letter to LA through experimental rap that was born in… LA
This album feels like the younger brother to To Pimp A Butterfly that was spoiled to a point that they never grew up and left their parents house while TPAB is the matured older brother to went out and had something to say.
Not saying it’s a bad thing, but that’s what the sound heavily reminded me of, almost like a messier and leaned more experimental than TPABs mix of jazz and experimental. But both huge love letters to LA (though TPAB is a pure call out to capitalism and its kinks.)
I actually thought this album was at-least good, but I have only listened to it once. But this album felt like it was EVERYWHERE while only being in that LA hip hop experimental sub genre. Which makes me think I definitely will be listening to this again and most definitely reduxing it.
All of the lyrics are pure call backs to LA, I mean two of the tracks are literally named LA, it doesn’t get more Los Angeles than this. And I love it, because after I truly played the shit out of an album like To Pimp A Butterfly, I still crave a sound of that project had to offer, but I’m still so taken aback by this album and it was so short that I truly didn’t get to let it digest in my ears.
Expect a redux.
