"We're just nervous kids," Ben Walsh repeats over grungy power chords on the new single from Tigers Jaw's long-awaited LP Charmer. A more caffeinated iteration of Tigers Jaw came to an end about a year ago, and "Nervous Kids" is not so much an evolution as it is a reduction, since Brianna Collins and Walsh are the remaining original members and the hyperactivity of their previous work has been streamlined into tuneful, subdued indie rock. The Scranton band may not sound like the actual, jumpy nervous kids they were on 2010's Two Worlds, but Collins and Walsh's anxieties have naturally softened to a mature unease, wielded with confidence: "Your problems look so big from the ground/ Raise them up for all to see/ Shout them from the top of twin peaks."
