Fitting that in a week where James Murphy made quite the statement with his epic David Bowie remix, former LCD Soundsystem drummer (and Murphy DJ partner) Pat Mahoney premiered Museum of Love, his new studio project with Dennis McNany, who also releases tracks as Jee Day. But rather than rock short-shorts and pound the drums like a maniac as in his previous band, Mahoney is now behind the mic on “Monotronic,” singing in a sweet tone that brings to mind UK artist Kindness. Museum of Love moves at a stately pace here, offering a slow and steady chugger that wraps itself in gauzy vocal layers and takes its sweet time reaching its climactic peak.
