Slowly but surely, Mute offshoot Liberation Technologies is establishing a reputation as an excellent purveyor of left-of-center electronic music. There's been  Laurel Halo's excellent Spring EP under her King Felix guise, Surgeon and Regis' team-up as BMB, and Bandshell's very solid Caustic View EP-- and the next release comes from Londoner Powell, whose Fizz EP sees release today. The EP is his fourth overall and second this year, following a release on Death of Rave; the nearly eight-minute title track is all menacing drum sounds that sound as if they're played off of a busted machine, as stray guitar licks and vocal samples enter and exit with no serious regard for setting any sort of form. In other words, intriguing stuff.
