Elastica kicked down the doors of the Britpop movement at its apex with a wall of distortion in 1995 with an album which packed 15 songs with more style and bite in half the runtime of the majority of its peer’s releases at the time. It then shot up to number one in the British charts, broke into America without breaking a sweat while the rest barely stumbled across the Atlantic, then disappeared into the dark, smoke-filled corners of 90s legend before the entire scene imploded in a haze of hedonism and lager. Not bad for a band who were accused of being “that bloke from Blur’s girlfriend’s band” by the press. Damon Albarn who?
