Sam Cook-Parrott’s indie pop band, Radiator Hospital, released a homemade video for "Bedtime Story", a song from their forthcoming LP, Torch Songs. "Take me out," Cook-Parrott sighs, as instrumentation crashes into him with the full force of, say, a double-decker bus. But by the looks of the video—shot on grainy 80s VHS tape—the only people he would go out with are sitting on his couch, passing around a pipe, or a cat.

Beyond the requisite close ups and tongue shots, the hazy video quality captures the sense that all is well for these fine young people, except for the faint smell of mildew and fallen expectations hanging in the air. It all originates in Cook-Parrott’s mind. He is certainly not admitting "I just coudn’t bear to sleep alone" to this crowd. But in his head, Cook-Parrott surveys his sad situation with clarity. Or at least, he clearly surveys that something is sad. He keeps real introspection at arm’s length while effusive guitars applaud his mocking observations: "Your eyes explode into me with every little line/ You think that you could be the one, you think that you could be mine." Paul Simon, who was 24 when he recorded "I Am A Rock", might’ve patted him on the back, adding: "If I never loved, I never would’ve cried."
