Leeds psych-rockers Hookworms have never projected good vibes. On 2011's debut EP, every instance of guitar noodling was paired with calamitous screaming and hi-hat demolition work.  "Away / Towards", from Hookworms' debut LP Pearl Mystic (out September 3 via Weird World), finds them maniacally cranking up the elemental fury to almost apocalyptic levels. The skies erupt with white-hot guitar riffs while the drums explode like thunder. Hookworms tap into the primal, monolithic churning of the Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray", leaving scorched earth in their wake.
